The temperate climate is referred to the zones between 30 and 60/70 degrees of latitude containing areas of the world such as Europe, North and South Africa, South America, as well as parts of Asia and North America. Part of the temperate climate is the Mediterranean climate, yet it has its own special climatic conditions.

TEMPERATE CLIMATE CHARACTERISTICS
The temperate climate is mainly characterized by normal temperatures, without extreme conditions and average rain periods. The change between the seasons is evident without extreme sifts from one to another. The temperate climate is divided in two sub-categories, the maritime and the continental. The basic difference between the two is on the fluctuation of temperature figures, where in maritime temperate climate the temperature is fairly steady along the year, while on continental temperate the summer is warm and the winter is cold. It is also interesting the fact that in temperate climates the major wind is the western, which creates interesting differentiation between Europe and North America. The western wind in the USA is blocked by the Rocky Mountains and the inland has much warmer summers and colder winters. On the other hand, in Europe, the western wind penetrates more the continent as the Alps are in the middle, and as a result the weather sifts is much milder.

As shown on the two maps, the average temperature in the winter and in the summer does not have a lot of variation. In the winter the lowest average temperature is about 0 Celsius degrees and the highest varies from 10-20 Celsius degrees.
In the Summer the temperature rises to an average of about 20 degrees across the temperate zone. |
